City Clerk Responsibilities

During a City election, the City Clerk administers all election issues. 

Important Dates For 2026 Election:

  • Jan 15- Jan 31- Filing period (Candidates for Mayor, Council & Clarksburg Water Board) 

Note: Candidates must file IN PERSON.

  • Saturday, January 31st- Last day of filing period (City Clerk's Office open 9:00 am- 5:00 pm)
  • Feb. 17, 2026 - Last day to withdraw and not have name on the ballot
  • Feb. 24 - Drawing for ballot positions (9:00 AM County Courthouse Annex)
  • Mar 24, 2026- Write-In Candidate Filing Deadline
  • Mar. 27 - May 6 - Period for absentee voting by mail (Contact County Clerk's office (Voter Registration) for ballot- 304-624-8613)
  • April 1 - April 7- 1st Quarter (financial) reports due in City Clerk's office
  • Apr 21, 2026 - Voter registration deadline (Voter Registration Office located in Harrison County Courthouse)
  • April 27 - May 1- Primary (financial) Reports due in City Clerk's office
  • April 29 - May 9- Period for Early Voting in person (at Harrison County General Services Building (3rd Floor) and Meadowbrook Mall (Food Court entrance)
  • Tuesday, May 12 - Election Day (Polls open at 6:30 a.m. and Close at 7:30 p.m.)
  • July 1 - July 7- 2nd Quarter (financial) reports due in City Clerk's office

There will be no early voting at Clarksburg City Hall. Early voting will be held by the county:

About the City Council:

Clarksburg City Council operates under a City Manager form of government. In Clarksburg, the Mayor and City Council serve part-time and are elected on a non-partisan basis.  

Under the manager form of government, the City Council acts as the legislative body in establishing policy and law and the City Manager handles the day-to-day operations of the City.

IMPORTANT- Here below is information from the Secretary of State’s Office regarding the placement of candidate signs in rights-of-way:
The City of Clarksburg does not allow political signs posted in City rights-of-way and if candidates believe that they posted signs in the rights-of-way, please promptly remove the signs.  Any signs that are removed from the City’s rights-of-way by the City will be taken to the Public Works garage and may be retrieved there.
